On October 23, 2024, the TESDA Regional Training Center – Zamboanga Peninsula successfully conducted a Breast Cancer Awareness Program aimed at raising awareness about the prevention, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer. The event took place at the TESDA-RTC grounds, with participants including TESDA RTC personnel, employees from the Zamboanga City Integrated Care (ZCIC) District Office, and staff from the Provincial Training Center (PTC).
The program featured Dr. Myra A. Aranan, Medical Officer IV at the City Health Office, as the esteemed resource person. Dr. Aranan shared her extensive expertise on breast cancer, its risk factors, preventive measures, and the importance of regular self-examinations and screenings. Her informative session provided valuable insights, particularly on early detection, which can significantly increase the chances of successful treatment.
The program commenced with a warm welcome from [RTC Head Name]. Afterward, a message was delivered by Mara Estañero, the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person, who emphasized the importance of gender sensitivity in health programs and highlighted how breast cancer awareness aligns with TESDA’s commitment to supporting the well-being of women and men in the workplace. She urged everyone to remain proactive in their health and commended the participants for attending the event.

The participants, composed of RTC personnel, ZC-IC DO employees, and PTC staff, actively engaged in the discussion, expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to increase their knowledge of breast cancer prevention.
The awareness program concluded with breast examinations conducted privately for the three participants who volunteered themselves. Dr. Aranan, ensuring a discreet and respectful process, carried out the examinations, reinforcing the importance of early detection and regular check-ups.
